This exhibition contains a choice of portraits from this generous gift. Housed in the museum’s 1993 extension, this 20th and twenty first century collection is predominantly focused on the most important examples of modern Danish artwork. A lengthy corridor of work looking onto Østre Anlæg park works as a chronological overview of the work from this era, whilst the smaller galleries concentrate on specific artists or actions. The museum’s collections represent nearly 9,000 work and sculptures, roughly 240,000 artworks on paper in addition to more than 2,600 plaster casts of figures from historic occasions, the center-ages and the Renaissance.

The Gallery’s Poet-in-Residence, Koh Buck Song, has crafted a poem in response to the art work Fragments of a Shoreline, which was installed on the Padang for the Gallery’s Light to Night Festival 2022. The National Art Gallery building consists of a primary physique in the style of a traditional pavilion. It’s high multi-eaved roof section of the central portion of the constructing is balanced on each side by lengthy corridors extending East and West. The roofs of these buildings and the eaves of the wings of the constructing are embellished with yellow glazed tiles in conventional Chinese fashion. The creamy brick walls mix harmoniously with the colourful glazed tile decorations on the pillars, giving the whole facade a tasteful appearance, extra delicate than the onerous-faced Politically Inspired Monuments of TiananMen Square.
