Salute to Bacolod set tonight

A light show and grand fireworks will mark the 1st MassKara Festival Salute to Bacolod event at the fountain area of the Bacolod City Government Center at 8 tonight (Oct. 18, 2011).

The event, which will also serve as the reception for the Balik-Bacolod Program, will feature a sampler of the MassKara Festival highlights.

“This is the festival’s way of saluting Bacolod and her sons and daughters, many of whom have gone around the world and have come back to see their beloved city again,” festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit said.

The event will include the performances of LCC-ARFIEN giant MassKara puppets, and the streetdance and the Electric MassKara performing float competitions winners.

They will perform around the 8th Majica MassKara installations which are six colorful figures mounted on sculpted boats and floating in the fountain area.

The art installations are the work of Charlie Co, a leading Filipino artist based in Bacolod, in collaboration with a group of local artists.

Bacoleno balikbayans can present their passports to the VIP section of the event to gain entrance, Tajanlangit said.

Meanwhile, Tajanlangit yesterday announced a Director’s Prize for Creativity to Barangay Cabug during the Electric MassKara performing float competitions. Cabug will receive a cash prize of P10,000, he said.*
