MassKara streetdance preparations kick off

Some 27 Bacolod barangays were represented to the orientation for the 2012 streetdancing and the Electric MassKara float parade competitions at the BAYS Center yesterday.

Among them were five barangay captains, four kagawad (barangay councilors), and choreographers.

“As usual we are getting enthusiastic response from our barangays. And I think it is safe to say that this year, it’s going to be one exciting MassKara,” festival director Eli Tajanlangit said.

Tajanlangit also announced the launching of MusiKara: The Search for the 2012 MassKara Festival Music, in partnership with ABS-CBN.

The competition is open to all bands which can perform an original dance music that could be used for the festival, Tajanlangit said.

For details, interested bands can contact ABS-CBN, he added.

Tajanlangit conducted the orientation with Rudy Reveche, streetdance committee chairman and festival’s creative consultant.

Reveche said the streetdance school category will be on October 20, while the barangay category will be on October 21.

The Electric MassKara performing float competitions will be on October 19 to 21, he said.

Deadline for submission of entry forms for the streetdance and Electric MassKara competitions will be on August 6 at 5:30 p.m.

Entries will be raffled off the next day, August 7, to determine the 15 participating groups for the barangay streetdance, and 10 groups for Electric MassKara.

Last year’s top 10 winners in the barangay streetdance and top 3 winners in the Electric Masskara are pre-qualified to join, he said.*
