The screening for the 2012 GMA DanssKara: The MassKara Dance Showdown is slated September 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the SM City Events Centre, streetdance committee chairman Rudy Reveche announced.Now on its second year, the dance showdown is in partnership with GMA TV.
Festival director Eli F. J. Tajanlangit said the MassKara Dance Showdown hopes to highlight another breed of dancers, to make the MassKara celebration accessible to everybody.
Dancers do not have to wear elaborate costumes and masks, as dancing can be simple with low-tech masks, Tajalangit stressed.
The competition is accessible to more people but at the same time, reflects the dynamism of the festival, he said.
The dance showdown is envisioned to become another major activity of the MassKara Festival, he added.
The competition is open to any dance group, with eight to 12 dancers. Any dance form and canned music is allowed, provided the dancers must incorporate masks in their performance.
Face-painting and character make-up are allowed.

Elimination round will be on October 1 right after the opening ceremony of the 2012 MassKara Festival at the Bacolod Public Plaza.
The grand finals will be on October 22 after the closing ceremony of the festival, also at the public plaza.*
